Hockeyroos make it four in a row with 1-0 win over New Zealand

The 2021 Hockeyroos have achieved something Australia has never done before, not even the all conquering Hockeyroos of 1988-2000 and win their opening four games at the Olympic Games.

Despite being the dominant force on the pitch the Hockeyroos efforts went unrewarded with the scores tied at 0 at half time.

Four minutes in to the third quarter with the Hockeyroos again applying pressure Emily Chalker found the net to put Australia one up.

In the final 10 minutes New Zealand switched out their goal keeper for an extra field player in a last ditch effort to level the scores. With the clock counting down Australia kept the pressure on and held off the charge with WAIS graduate Karri Somerville crucial in defense.

With four wins Australia will finish at the top of pool B. The Hockeyroos face Argentina in their final pool match on Saturday at 10:45AM Perth time.
