Paralympian and WAIS scholarship holder Sharon Jarvis added another accolade to her list of career achievements recently when she was named the Domestic Athlete of the Year at Equestrian Australia’s Sport Achievement Awards at ANZ Stadium.

The West Australian shone at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky, winning two bronze medals as the Australian Para-Equestrian Team went on to achieve their best ever result.

Jarvis also won the WA State Para-Equestrian Dressage Championships Grade III and produced the highest overall score at the 2010 National Para-Equestrian Dressage Championships.

The Awards Ceremony coincided with Equestrian Australia’s official launch of its campaign for the London Games in 2012.

“This is a holistic campaign,” said Grant Baldock, Equestrian Australia CEO. “We have great athletes, great owners, great coaching staff, supporters and administration and we need to pull together and power toward London.”

Hosted by Nicole Livingstone, the gala event was enjoyed by close to 300 guests and recognised the highest achievers in the sport throughout 2010.

Also during the evening, Equestrian Australia introduced their Hall of Fame, inducting Equestrian heroes from throughout the decades since Equestrian Australia’s (formerly Equestrian Federation of Australia) beginnings in the 1950’s.The 2011 inductees are listed on Equestrian Australia’s website (www.equestrian.org.au).

EA Special Services Award – Sue Gunn, Karen Herald, Val Mayger and Dr. Warwick Vale
Domestic Horse of the Year – Supernatural (Saddlehorse)
International Horse of the Year – Vivant (Jumping)
International Athlete of the Year – Boyd Exell (Driving)
Domestic Athlete of the Year – Sharon Jarvis (Para-Equestrian)
