Kookaburras Edge Past Belgium

The Kookaburras remain firmly on course for the final of the Champions Trophy in England following a 2-0 win over Belgium.

Despite a slow first half the Kookaburras came away with a victory over the Red Lions through second half goals to Glenn Turner and Tristan White.

With business end of the tournament still ahead and the Kookaburras undefeated, coach Graham Reid said his side had avoided a banana skin against Belgium.

“It was a good lesson for us. We didn’t wake up until the second quarter of the game, and then we started to play a bit better.

“The numbers behind the scene weren’t good for us tonight, whereas normally they are.”

“They’re usually a sign that we create a lot of opportunities and that we don’t give too many away but tonight was opposite,” he said.

Tristan White commented: “It was a really tough first quarter, they’re big, strong guys and they kind of put it to us in the first quarter and we knew we had to wake up as Graham [Reid] said to us at the break. We worked hard and were able to run over the top in the end so it was really pleasing.

Commenting on his goal, White added: “The goal just fell for me; I swung and it went in so I’m happy with that.”

The Kookaburras next face India on Thursday, UK time.
