Kookaburras ready for gold medal game against Belgium

The Kookaburras head in to the gold medal game undefeated throughout the Tokyo tournament, though their last three games have tested the team. A draw with Spain in their final Pool match before beating a penalty shootout was needed to defeat the Netherlands in the quarterfinals.

After defeating Germany in the semifinals, the Kookaburras now have to overcome their European rivals to claim their second gold medal.

The Kookaburras have strength in attack with 10 players scoring so far, including WA striker Tom Wickham with five goals.

“We are very pleased to share the goals around,” said Head Coach Colin Batch. “It’s important you aren’t relying on just one person all the time.”

“We pride ourselves on being in the right spot. Finishing is important or getting an outcome inside the circle… a penalty corner. We have some good takers of penalty corners and that can be where the game is won and lost.”
