Lindorff Selected for U19 Road Worlds Debut

Road cyclist Tyler Lindorff has earned a call-up for the Australian U19 team set to take on the UCI Road World Championships in Austria next September.

The 18 year-old will line-up in the men’s road race as one of three Australian representatives, with the Winthrop local to be joined by Luke Plapp and Carter Turnbull.

Lindorff secured selection after a successful season in which he won the national road championship and medalled in the time trial.

Andrew Jackson – who has overseen his rise to national representation – said Lindorff’s selection was a reward for effort.

“I’m very happy for him as this was a calculated aim, post attending the Junior Track Worlds in Italy in 2017.”

“This gives him a chance to show his diversity and how well rounded an athlete he is and Austria will suit his skill set,” Jackson added.

With four and a half months of planning and preparation before the road titles, Jackson said Lindorff would split his preparations between Perth and Europe.

“He will head into camp in Andorra for June and some of July before heading home for the final prep in Australia.”

“The preparation will include some local racing and other potential opportunities that we will factor in with the help of the WAIS Performance Enhancement staff and utilising the High Performance Service Centre here in Mt Claremont,” Jackson said.

Despite having two debutants at international level for the road race, Jackson believes the three-strong squad is well structured for the course in Tyrol.

“I believe Australia have selected a well-balanced team and have the strengths to have an impact in the road race as a group on a course that will suit their abilities.”

“Tyler has the ability to perform well on the specific nature of a lap type circuit that is similar in profile to the one in which he won the U19 Australian Road Championship in Ballarat in January of this year,” he said.

The 2018 UCI Road World Championships will be held in Austria from September 22-30 and will combine U19, U23 and Elite events for men and women.
