Little Bows Out

West Australian boxer Anthony Little has bowed out of his second Olympic campaign, going down to Russian Alexey Tishchenko in the round of 16.

Geraldton born Little had a tough task against the featherweight Olympic champion from Athens and it proved beyond the lion hearted fighter at the Beijing Workers’ Gymnasium this afternoon.

The 27-year old, who also made it to the round of 16 in Athens four years ago, lost the bout 11-3 on points.

The Russian started brightly in the first round, scoring three points to none and Little was unable to work his way back into the fight.

The second round was scored 3-1 to Tishchenko and at 6-1 down a massive fightback in the third round was the only thing that could keep Little in the contest.

Unfortunately it wasn’t to be, as the Russian continued to dominate the fight, scoring five points to zero to seal the fight.

Little managed to close out the bout with a 2-0 win in the fourth and final round but it was too late as his 2008 Olympic campaign came to an end.
