Anthony Little outclasses his Nambian opponent

West Australian boxer Anthony Little has started his Olympic campaign in style with a comprehensive 14-2 victory over his Namibian opponent on Monday afternoon.

Little outclassed Julius Indongo at the Beijing Workers Gymnasium to advance to the Round of 16. In the next round the 27-year old will seek to improve on his result from Athens four years ago when he comes up against Russian Alexey Tishchenko.

The Geraldton boxer dominated the opening round, scoring four points to none in a confidence boosting start.

He went on to score a further four points in both the second and third rounds before finishing with two points in the final round. His opponent could only manage single points in the second and final rounds.

After the bout Little told Olympics.com.au of his excitement at getting Australia’s first win in the Olympic boxing tournament.

“I’m so pumped to get our first win and I know there’s heaps of improvement left in me,” Little said.

“I am looking forward to my next fight against the Russian…it will be tough but I am confident.”

Little’s next bout will be on Friday afternoon.
