Western Australian Institute of Sport boxer Anthony Little this morning became Western Australia’s seventh member of the 2008 Australian Olympic Team and in the process made history as the state’s first dual Indigenous Olympian.
Little will represent Australia in the 60kg (lightweight) category of the boxing competition at the 2008 Olympic Games after the AOC today ratified his selection following his victory at the Oceania Championships earlier this month. In addition to becoming Western Australia’s first dual Indigenous Olympian he has also made history as WA’s first dual Olympian in the sport of boxing.
The 27-year old made his Olympic debut when he made it through to the second round of the60kg competition in Athens four years ago and will be looking tobuild on thatexperience when the boxing competition gets underway in Beijing on August 9. Originally from the northern wheatbelt town of Mullewa, Little is now based in Perth under the tutelage of his long time coach Geoff Peterson at Peterson’s Boxing Gym.
Little is currently in Croatia with the other eight members of the boxing team, training for a European tournament whichforms apart of their build up to Beijing.
