Emily Little competes at the London Olympics

WAIS gymnast Emily Little will compete for Australia at the weekend’s American Cup in Dallas, Texas.

The competition signifies a remarkable return for the 2012 Olympian, who retired from the sport after London only to regain her passion for the sport after finding her way into another gym passion through strength club work.

The return to routine soon sparked the flicker of competitive drive and within a few short months of Little’s full gymnastics training, she was named as a non-travelling reserve for the Australian women’s team at last year’s Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Her all-round skill set and particular penchant for vault, saw the 21 year-old selected for December’s World Cup event in Mexico, where she claimed a silver medal and looked at ease on her international return.

Now with a step up in quality and with more training and preparation under her belt, Little said she would relish the opportunity to gauge for how far she has come in short time.

“It’s been a while since I’ve competed with the best in the world so it will be good to see where my scores stand,” Little explained.

“I want to show that Australia can compete with the top gymnasts in the world.”

Little will compete against star Great British gymnast Claudia Fragapane as well as a host of stars from the US, Italy and Canada.

“I feel honoured to have been selected to compete at the American Cup,” said Little. “I’m excited to see how the top gymnasts in the world train and compete.”

Little is joined in Dallas by WAIS senior gymnastics coach Nicholai Lapchin and Gymnastics Australia WAG Technical Director Jill Wright.
