London2012: Day One Report

Published On: 28 July 2012

Well after an amazing opening ceremony the games have begun. Our Aussies looked great in their green and white uniforms… very specky and classy in my opinion!

WAIS’s very own Taylor Worth hit his targets yesterday to score a personal best and come up 23rd in qualifications.  He will face off with Great Britain’s Alan Wills in the first round next Wednesday. Great news for our 21 year old, Archer.

Today though, keep your eye on our following west Aussies.

Robyn Van Nus- shooting. Robyn is one of the three Australian shooters. She competed in the 10 metre air rifle. She scored a 391 in qualifications, finishing 45th, but it wasn’t enough to get her through to finals.

Our Aussie rowers start their races today and WAIS has a good contribution towards this years’ Olympic team. Ben Cureton and Todd Skipsworth will be in action today in the lightweights (4-) and Hannah Vermeersch will be racing with the ‘fairytale story’ women’s eight. Our Aussie (4-) team qualified 3rd today with a time of 5:51:18 behind France 5:50:79 and Britain 5:49:29.

In the pool today we have Blair Evans. Today was Evan’s Olympic debut, swimming in the 400m individual medley. She swam a tough race but didn’t quiet make it through to finals. Even though this was Blair’s first Olympics, don’t expect it to be her last. Keep a watch out for this young lady because great things are sure to be in store for her future swimming career.

Last but not least we have our equestrian-eventing couple Clayton and Lucinda Fredericks. The Australian equestrian team has been going through a bit of struggle this week but nothing that should affect these two. GO horses GO!!!

Stay tuned for more blogs on who to be watching out for and results from our amazing WAIS athletes.
