Olympians Maddison Keeney and Nikita Hains have been selected in a strong Australian Diving Team for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

The WAIS graduates both impressed at the recent Australian Championships to earn their selection.

Keeney will return to the international stage after missing the Tokyo Games with injury. With two silver from the Gold Coast and bronze from Glasgow in her previous two appearances, the 26-year-old is looking to add gold to her name. She will contest the Women’s 3m Synchronised and Mixed 3m Synchronised, an event she won at the last World Championships in Birmingham.

For Hains, her maiden Commonwealth Games selection continues a rapid rise to the top of the sport over the last year. Hains who competed at the Tokyo Olympic Games last year will contest the Women’s 10m Synchronised and Mixed 10m Synchronised events.

Commonwealth Games Australia Team Chef de Mission Petria Thomas OAM believes the compelling international resumes of the diving squad stand them in good stead to excel at Birmingham.

“It has been a short turnaround for many of the team following the Tokyo Olympics, but they have continued to train and work hard towards today’s selection for the Commonwealth Games,” Thomas said.

“Australia has been fortunate to enjoy a golden history in diving, and I know these divers will be motivated to add their own names to this incredible legacy for the green and gold.”

The pair are currently in Canada for a World Cup round, and will contest the 2022 FINA World Championships later this month ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
