WAIS-AIS gymnasts Lauren Mitchell and Emily Little have been named in Gymnastics Australia’s World Championships team due to compete in Tokyo next month.

Mitchell will be looking to defend her world title, after winning gold on floor in Holland in 2010, whilst Commonwealth Games champion Emily Little will be looking enhance her standing as one of Australia’s brightest talents.

Aside from the two Western Australian representatives, fellow WAIS athlete Nikki Chung was listed as a reserve for the Australian team bound for Japan, with the team due to depart it’s Canberra base on September 30th.

Chung’s nomination as reserve is a rich reward for the consistent improvement she has shown since making her entry into senior ranks. Chung won her first senior international medal for Australia in March this year, when she claimed bronze at the Gymnix International in Canada.

The Women’s Artistic World Championships team was announced following a two day final trial at the Australian Institute of Sport.

Amongst the highlights of the competition was Lauren Mitchell scoring a 15.30 on Vault and a total overall combined two day total of 119.3 which gave her automatic selection into the World Championship team.

Another highlight was the consistent performance of the elegant Georgia Rose Brown who has taken a step up into the senior ranks this year and shown why she deserves to be on the team.

Emily Little was back in action with her solid double twisting yurchenko and the always reliable Ashleigh Brennan again showed why she is a highly respected performer for the Australian team.
