Monday’s day of W.A.I.S awesomeness!

Published On: 30 July 2012

A little re-cap on our W.A.I.S athletes from Sunday.

Lauren Mitchell and Emily Little from gymnastics BOTH made individual finals. Although the team missed out on team finals, Emily made all-around finals and Lauren made floor finals. Lauren is the first female gymnast to be in floor finals at an Olympic games away from our home country and Emily was the highest-ranking All-Rounder from Australia.

Unfortunately our women’s Hockeyroos, men’s volleyball and Sharks both lost their first games. Tough loses but it’s not the end for any of these teams. A small hiccup that’s all.

Our equestrian eventers Lucinda and Clayton Fredericks continued Australia’s good run, scoring 40.0 and 40.4 respectively. They have one more day so let’s hope they keep it up!

The women’s eight came 2nd in their first heat and will go on to the repechages on the 31st. From a long short for qualifying to these games, they seem to be producing results that build a lot of belief in these eight. Get excited for their future races!

The men’s lightweight four came 2nd and will race again in the semifinals on the 31st. Rowing is such a great sport to watch from Birdseye view. It isn’t all that on the sidelines where you only get to see one leg of the race.

Monday 30th keep your eyes out for these following superstars.

Kynan Maley will join fellow W.A.I.S athlete Robin Jeffery in the C2 Slalom Canoeing first run. Kynan Maley came 6th in his first run in Slalom Canoeing on the 29th.

The men’s Hockey team, including Fergus Kavangh, will take on South Africa on the Hockey field. Great things are expected of this team so keep your eyes on their journey.

The women’s water polo team ‘The Stingers’ kick off their first match against Italy. I was watching the men’s water polo and I though to myself, “Gosh that looks hard, I would probably drown!” Like all elite sports, I have such admiration for their skills and the work they’ve done to be world class. W.A.I.S’s Glencora Vermeersh and Gemma Beadsworth are both apart of the Stingers quest for gold!
