WAIS Individual Support Program Athlete Jessica Moore has repeated her 2008 effort in making the second round of the Australian Open after a marathon three set victory over American Christina McHale.
18-year old Moore came back from a set down to defeat fellow wildcard McHale 1-6, 6-3, 9-7 in a match which lasted over two and a half hours on court six at Melbourne Park.
The Williams born and bred tennis player showed great character to fight back after losing the opening set decisively and at one stage in the decider was down 5-3. She managed to again turn the tables on the American to even the scoreline before going on to record a 9-7 third set win and take the match.
136th ranked Moore will now take on Italian number 12 seed Flavia Pennetta in the second round on Thursday.
