WAIS athlete Lauren Mitchell has continued her impressive form following the 2008 Beijing Games, winning more international medals at the 21st Massilia Cup in Marseille, France.

Mitchell won gold in the All-Around competition and claimed silver medals in the Apparatus finals of the Uneven Bars and Beam. Mitchell also claimed bronze as part of the Australian team in the Massilia Cup.

The 21st Massilia Cup event is run in three sections:

The Massilia Cup is for teams from the top eight countries from the Beijing Olympic Games. An All Around competition was also run in conjunction with this. WAIS gymnast Lauren Mitchell competed in this event, placing first in the All-Around, with the Australian team placing third behind China and Russia.

The Open Massilia is an invitational competition which included countries from outside the top eight from Beijing. This was an All Around and an Apparatus competition. WAIS gymnast Emily Little competed in the Open event, placing 14th All Around and second on Vault and seventh on Floor. From a field of 63 gymnasts Little can be very proud of her achievements.

The Top Massilia is the Apparatus Finals for the 12 best gymnasts on each apparatus from the Massilia Cup and the Open Massilia.

WAIS gymnast Lauren Mitchell qualified for three apparatus finals, winning silver medals on Uneven Bars and Beam, and placing 5th on Floor. These results left Mitchell with four medals for the meet and consolidated her reputation as a leading international gymnast.
