Australia’s wildcard entry Janine Murray picked up two places on the final day of the all round individual rhythmic gymnastics competition at Wembley Arena.

The Western Australian Institute of Sport athlete wrapped up Australia’s Olympic gymnastics campaign with a stellar ribbon routine (25). Her clubs score was solid (23.875) despite a drop early in the routine.

Murray finished with a combined score of 96.325, which included her hoop (24.350) and ball (23.1) scores from the previous day’s competition. Her overall ranking was 22nd out of a field of 24.

“Ribbon is my favourite apparatus and my strongest but I was feeling a bit nervous because of the expectation I put on myself,” she said.

“I finished up where I had hoped to. I had a small error in the clubs which let me down a little.

“Today I just wanted went out there and tried to enjoy it and not over-think it.”

Murray, 22, said she had thoroughly enjoyed her debut Olympic experience, but would take some time to decide if she will embark on a second Olympic campaign in Rio in 2016.

“The whole atmosphere, being part of the Australian team, being at the Olympics is inspiring on its own.

“I will have to have a think about where I go from here and talk it over with my coach. It’s been a long, tough road to get here, but this is definitely the cherry on the cake.”

Rhythmic was the last of the gymnastics disciplines to compete at the Olympic Games with Australians having already completed the trampoline and men’s and women’s artistic competitions.
