Darren Gardiner (The Bear)

WAIS athlete, Australian record holder, and Paralympic silver medalist, Darren Gardiner has received first place at the recent Australian Powerlifting Championships.

He lifted a reputable 222.5kg. It was a very close competition, but Gardiner proved his strength and managed to out perform his closest competitor by two points.

Gardiner is currently training hard in preparation for his next competition in May, the Arafura Games, hosted in Darwin.

The AIS has shown support by recently adding Powerlifting to its program and dedicating a new strengthening coordinator which will help the future of the sport and Gardiner in his preparation for the Arafura Games and his third Paralympic Games.
