Perth’s Dimoska twins have earned medal success at the 2018 Oceania Championships in New Zealand.

Mishela and Marijana Dimoska were representing Australia at international level for the first time, having earned their spots after standout performances at the recent Australian Open Championships in Sydney.

The sisters continued their rise in the sport at the Oceania titles, with both winning medals at U21 level and sharing a bronze medal at the senior level.

As is becoming customary for the duo, they met in the final of the U21 kata competition, with Marijana taking gold ahead of Mishela.

Both athletes made the semi-finals of their senior kata competition, with both losing tight battles 3-2 to miss out on progression to the final. With no competition for third place at the Oceania titles, the sisters were jointly awarded bronze.

The Macedonian born siblings have now returned to Europe, where they are focusing their preparations for the up-coming World Cup event in Umag, Croatia.

Both Mishela and Marijana specialise in the Kata discipline of Karate, which assigns competitors a red or blue belt and uses a flag system to adjudicate the speed and power of a contestants’ technique.

Competitors take turn in demonstrating their kata which is assessed by a panel of five judges, who raise either a red or blue flag, with the winner determined by the athlete who has more of their flag colour elevated.
