Anton Zappelli has finished his Paralympic debut with a 36th place finish in the qualification round of the R6 Mixed 50m Air Rifle Prone SH1 event.

Zappelli has only been shooting for five years, yet was able to qualify to compete in two events at the Rio Paralympics.

The R6 Mixed 50m Air Rifle Prone SH1 was his second event of the Games, where he managed to execute a strong performance to finish with 598.3 points.

This result left him in 36th position and unfortunately this meant he did not advance into the finals.

Earlier in the week, on competition day three, Zappelli also participated in the qualification round of the R3 Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone SH1.

This performance was the stronger of his two events as shown through his 18th place finish.

His score was also significantly higher for the 10m event, totaling 629.9 points.

Competing in his first Paralympics, Anton had had limited experience, compared to his opponents, at the international level.

He secured his first international podium finish at the 2015 World Cup.

Here he won a bronze medal along with securing his spot on the Australian Paralympic team.
