Personal Best Shows Taylor’s Worth
WAIS archer Taylor Worth has shot a personal best in finishing 23rd in today’s ranking round of the London Olympic Games men’s individual recurve at Lord’s.
The Perth 21 year-old shot 668 but was overshadowed by legally blind Korean star Dong Hyun – who struck 669 – a new world record.
Some tight officiating calls hampered Worth, but he will head into a likely elimination contest with Great Britain archer Allan Wills in confident mood.
“They were tough line calls from the judges but they were doing what they have to do,” Worth said.
With the competition now shifting to the best of five set match play, Worth believes he is in good shape for the medal rounds next Friday.
“Ranking is different to match play,” he said. “I feel my match play is much stronger than ranking.”
The show however was stolen by Korean athlete Hyun, who produced a masterly display of shooting despite some at times unfavourable conditions to shoot a new world record, in a performance Worth described as “near perfect shooting”.
Korea claimed the top three positions, and will be firm favourites for the gold in the men’s individual recurve.
