WAIS divers Joshua Ong, Teju Williamson and Tamara Irvine all secured podium finishes at the 2014/15 Australian Open Championships in Adelaide.
Ong earned silver in both the men’s 1m and men’s 3m synchronized, along with being named in the Road to Rio shadow squad.
WAIS head diving coach Shannon Roy was extremely impressed with Ong’s promising performance against more senior divers.
“His 1m performance was a standout as he really showed what he’s capable of and his ability to compete at the senior level,” explained Roy.
“His 3m synchro performance with partner Matthew Carter (SA) was another highlight as they challenged the older and more experienced senior pair, pushing them the final dive.”
Williamson joined Ong in the Road to Rio shadow squad, as well as earning silver with training partner Irvine in the women’s synchronized platform.
“Teju showed experience beyond her age in her platform event,” Said Roy.
“After only being on 10m full time for less than 6 months she beat some of Australia’s more known senior divers and at 15 years old she shows amazing potential for the future.”
Roy mentioned, Irvine had a very encouraging first time performance.
“As could be expected, Tamara showed some nerves due to it being her very first senior national competition but overall competed well with some of the more experienced divers and showed some exciting things for the future”
