Western Australian BMX athlete Lauren Reynolds suffered a crash in her semi-final run at the 2016 BMX World Championships in Colombia, to miss qualification for the final.

The Bunbury born athlete made a strong start to her world championship campaign, advancing comfortably through both moto and quarter final stages before disaster struck in her semi.

Positioned in the top four places needed to qualify for the final, Reynolds’ hopes were dashed when she clipped the back wheel of Russian competitor Yaroslava Bondarenko and went to ground on the second corner of her run.

Reynolds’ Australian teammate Caroline Buchanan followed up her strong form in the time-trial, to take second place in the final, behind home town hero and 2016 World Champion Mariana Pajon.

WAIS athlete Kirsten Dellar was also in action for Australia at the World Championships, with the debutant finishing seventh in her semi-final in a time of 46.952.

Despite crashing out at World Championships, Lauren Reynolds is still expected to earn nomination for the 2016 Australian Olympic Team alongside Caroline Buchanan, having enjoyed a strong campaign over the US pro-circuit in the lead-up to the international season.
