Lauren Reynolds, bound for Denmark

WAIS athlete Lauren Reynolds crashed out and missed the podium in the final of the BMX National Championships which were held at Brigadoon, Western Australia last weekend.

Reynolds – who is considered a hot prospect in the sport – crashed out on the final turn allowing Canberra’s Caroline Buchanan to take the win ahead of Melissa Mankowski and Ziggy Callan.

Elite Development Squad members Buchanan, Bracken, Reynolds, Josh Callan and Sam Willloughby along with Luke Madill and Brian Kirkham fly out this week to Denmark for next weekend’s first round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Copenhagen.

Australian Head Coach, Wade Bootes, says he’s hopeful of some strong performances after seeing the talent on show in Western Australia.

“For the guys the Copenhagen track will be more like a freeway which means they’ll be able to open up, be up the front and do well,” said Bootes. “For the girls I’m really happy with the way they’ve progressed in the training camp and leading up to the trip, they’re a young team and I think they are going to do super well.”
