Dual Olympian Lauren Reynolds has been named in the Australian squad to compete at the UCI World Championships in the USA in July.

Reynolds is one of four members of the elite women’s squad for Australia, whilst in total, 19 athletes will wear the green and gold at the championships in Rock Hill.

Now based in the US, Reynolds will look to emulate her 2013 efforts in New Zealand where she won world championship silver behind teammate Caroline Buchanan.

The same duo, in Rio de Janeiro last year, became the first Australian women to represent their country at two Olympic campaigns, whilst in recent weeks, Reynolds earned her first podium of the 2017 World Cup series when she finished third in the second round of the circuit in Papendal.

Speaking on the make-up of the Australian team, High Performance coach Wade Bootes said the squad can impress at this year’s peak BMX event.

“I’m excited to see this Australian team compete against the rest of the world on US soil,” Bootes said.

“I have been very impressed with the domestic season that BMX Australia ran because it highlighted the depth and strength we have across the board.

“Both our elites and juniors have been great and I think the sort of performances they have been showing domestically can be competitive on the world stage.”

“The fact we have Caroline and Lauren, who is our highest ranked podium placegetter at world cups this year, shows our depth and the possibility we have of having riders on the podium or as world champions.”
