Vegieman was delighted with the competition entries

The Western Australian Institute of Sport is delighted to announce that St Annes Primary School has won the inaugural Go for 2&5®WAIS Community Development ProgramSchools Competition.

The Harvey based school will receive a $1000 sports voucher to ensure their students will stay fit and active for years to come.

St Annes Year 3 students Cameron Pfitzner, Joshua Adornetto and Michael Robinson produced a fantastic DVD video highlighting how a healthy diet of two fruit and five vegetables everyday helps them fuel their daily physical activities.

WAIS dual gymnastics world championship silver medallist Lauren Mitchell and reigning national javelin champion Kim Mickle were on hand to present St Annes with the award, followed by a screening of the winning entry to a school assembly.

Mitchell and Mickle then treated the Year 3 class to some fun physical activities outside, before heading in for giveaways and autographs.

WAIS received over 50 entries for the school competition with videos, posters and podcasts sent in from across the State. The competition selection panel was overwhelmed by the innovative and creative designs and was left in no doubt that the health message was sinking in with Western Australian school children.

WAIS Public Relations Officer Chris Abbott said “The quality of entries were amazing and choosing a winner was no easy decision. It was particularly pleasing to see that WA kids understand that physical activity is important and that eating two fruit and five vegetables everyday, is the perfect way to fuel that fun.”

Second place and a $500 sports voucher was awarded to Neerabup Primary School for their excellent Fruit and Veg Healthy Rap. Third place and a $200 sports voucher was awarded to Ranford Primary School for a spectacular poster campaign.

The competition will run again insemester one 2010. For more information head to www.wais.org.au/wcdp
