Stephens Selected for International Gymnix in Montreal

Published On: 27 February 2019

16 year-old gymnast Sidney Stephens has earned selection for the Australian women’s artistic team to compete at the International Gymnix meet in Canada next month.

Stephens will join with five other senior team members as the group prepares to travel to Montreal for the March 8-10 competition.

The selection marks Stephens’ first trip as a senior international and she will be joined on the touring party by National Centre of Excellence – Perth head coach Coral King and junior team member Olena Edmeades.

The International Gymnix meet ranks as one of the sport’s highest profile events on the international circuit, with the competition attracting many of the world’s leading gymnastics nations including teams for the USA and China.

Stephens’ selection is something of a watershed moment for the Perth high performance training base, with the Doubleview resident becoming the first gymnast from WA to earn a representative leotard on a senior WAG team since Emily Little back in 2017.

2019 is set to be a busy year for Stephens, with the Australian Gymnastics Championships due in May before the selection process begins for October’s FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany.
