Eamon Sullivan has safely qualified for Saturday morning’s final of the 50m freestyle after finishing third in his semi-final this morning.

World record holder Sullivan backed up from an intense 24 hours, where he won silver in the 100m freestyle yesterday morning and then swam in a 50m freestyle heat last night, to post a time 21.75 seconds.

His time sees him qualified as the sixth fastest swimmer for the final.

The West Australian said after the race that he was feeling the effects of a hectic day and will be ready to challenge for gold after a relaxing afternoon today.

“The last couple of days have taken a lot out of me,” he said poolside to Channel 7.

“I’m not as fresh as I was. I’ll have a good day off and come back firing.”

The final will be swum at 10:39am Saturday morning.
