The Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) is pleased to publish Nurturing High Performance, the Institute’s 2022-2032 Strategic Plan, outlining its vision for an exciting decade of high performance sport culminating in the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane.

WAIS has a proud 38 year history of success in supporting athletes and sport achieve challenging and inspiring goals that have real meaning for Australians. We aim to continue this success.

Our vision is Western Australian sporting champions creating community pride and inspiring the next generation.

The 2032 Brisbane Games and the 2026 Victorian Commonwealth Games will provide great opportunities and exciting challenges. Such a prospect allows WAIS to consider a longer-term strategic focus, to ensure we can meet the demands and challenges that a home Games presents.

WAIS remains committed to continued collaboration with athletes, sports, our National Institute Network colleagues and other partners to realise those opportunities and to overcome the challenges.

Our plan seeks to find and nurture new talent, enable champion performances, and to inspire our community. Over the next 10 years, we hope to help contribute to the development of a stronger sports system in Western Australia that continues to enliven our communities.

Developed with three horizons in mind. The first horizon is focused on preparation to strengthen our talent pathways, elevate athlete care and enhance sport diversity.

To support the WAIS vision and deliver our strategic priorities, five strategic pillars of teams, intelligence, people, engagement and governance, underpinned by strong organisational culture have been identified as key to continued success.

Nurturing High Performance has been developed by WAIS in collaboration with the Western Australian Government, through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and our sporting partners.
