Swimming: Women’s 200m Butterfly – Semi Final

Athlete: Brianna Throssell

Venue: Olympic Aquatics Stadium

WA swimmer Brianna Throssell will swim in the final of the women’s 200m butterfly after setting the seventh fastest time through the semi final stage.

The 20 year-old Olympic debutant swam a measured semi final to finish powerfully in 2:07.19 for third in her race and seventh overall on Day 4.

Australian teammate Madeline Groves was the fastest qualifier through to Thursday morning’s final (Perth time) with the national champion touching home in 2:05.66.

Throssell was faster off the blocks than she’d been in her heat, but stuck to her race plan of building stroke and speed over the first 100m before turning on the pace in the back end.

She turned third at the final 50m and held firm to touch behind the Chinese pair of Yilin Zhou (2:06.52) and Yufei Zhang (2:06.95).

The final will be held on Day 5 of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games at 9:54am (Thursday morning Perth time).
