Thursday’s scheduled semi-finals of the Olympic rowing regatta were abandoned after a severe storm hit Beijing.

West Australians Ben Cureton and Todd Skipworth had their semi-final in the men’s lightweight four postponed until Friday afternoon as they seek to qualify for Sunday’s final.

The storm hit the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park around 3pm Thursday afternoon and with lightning in the air Olympic rowing officials called off the afternoon’s racing.

Tennis and slalom canoeing were also affected by the storm.
