WAIS cyclist Josie Tomic competed in the Beijing UCI World Cup over the weekend riding in the points race and the 3000m women’s individual pursuit.

Tomic finished 16th in amongst the tactics and speed of the points race and produced a good ride to finish fifth in the women’s IP against competitors with Olympic experience.

Tomic competed in the points race in Beijing and gained valuable experience at International level. Czech Republic cyclist Jarmila Machacova claimed the win earning 25 points to hold off challenges from China’s Cui Wang (23 pts) and Italian Giorgia Bronzini (13 pts).

Tomic recorded a fifth place finish in the women’s 3000m individual pursuit with Beijing Olympic fourth place getter Alison Shanks from New Zealand winning the world cup gold in a personal best time of 3.30.685min.

Lithuanian Vilija Sereikaite claimed silver with Svitlana Galyuk of the Ukraine rounding out the top three.

Tomic’s world cup performance rounds off what has been a busy January for the young Western Australian, who claimed second place in the recent Bay Crits series in Ballarat.
