WAIS taekwondo star Tina Morgan is out of contention for the gold, after being defeated in the first round of the Olympic -67kg taekwondo competition.

The preliminary match went into golden score overtime, where the first point wins, however both competitors failed to score. The judges ruled Morgan’s opponent, reigning world champion Karine Sergerie, the superior fighter and awarded her the win.

Speaking to Sportal, Morgan expressed her disappointment with the result.

“There were a couple of shots I definitely landed but for some reason they weren’t given as points… It’s tough, because I worked so hard to get here,” Morgan said.

Following competition format, Morgan will only have a chance at bronze if Canada’s Sergerie makes the final match. Sergerie will compete in the quarter finals against Vanina Paeola Sanchez Beron from Argentina this afternoon (Friday).
