Australian International Shooting Limited has named a strong 37-person squad to compete at the 2010 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Munich, Germany.

The squad includes two WAIS IASP athletes, with Olympian Robyn Van Nus and Pam McKenzie both listed to represent Australia.

Van Nus will compete in the Air Rifle and three position, whilst McKenzie will fly the Australian flag in the Air pistol competition.

The event, which is for both junior and seniors, will be held from 29 July-11 August and shall showcase the top shooters from around the world, who will shoot for world championship glory over 55 different rifle, pistol and shotgun disciplines.

The Australian team features the experience of past Olympic medallists Michael Diamond (NSW), Warren Potent (NSW), Russell Mark (VIC) and Adam Vella (VIC), while a number of future stars, including Alethea Sedgman (VIC), will compete in the southern German city.

Australian International Shooting Limited CEO Nick Sullivan says a number of athletes are realistic medal chances.

“Competition is obviously very difficult at any international event, and the World Championships are no different,” Sullivan said. “In saying that however, we have had a number of athletes this year who have been successful on the World Cup tour.

“Adam Vella and Warren Potent have won World Cup gold this year, while Lalita Yauhleuskaya and Russell Mark have earned themselves silver medals.

“2010 is a big year for our shooters with the Commonwealth Games also on the horizon, and there is definitely a buzz of excitement amongst the group.”

Meanwhile, selectors will meet next week to decide on the athletes who will be nominated to the Australian Commonwealth Games Association for the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games.

17 different events will be contested at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, with a maximum of two athletes eligible for each event.

The Australian Commonwealth Games Association will then name the Australian team in July.
