The Western Australian Institute of Sport wishes to express its sincere condolences to the family and friends of John Kobelke, following news of his passing today.
During his term as the Minister for Sport and Recreation, John was a passionate and vocal supporter of WAIS. His vision and advocacy helped guide a generation of WA elite athletes in chasing their sporting dreams.
WAIS CEO Steve Lawrence said that Mr Kobelke brought a thoughtful and engaging approach towards championing sport in WA.
“John was a true gentleman who had an enquiring mind and eye for detail that led to a real understanding of, and advocacy for WAIS and the value of sport to the community.”
