WA Achieves Big Representation Across National Junior Squads

Published On: 6 August 2019

Western Australia has experienced strong representation
across both men’s and women’s National Junior Squads following the recent
success of WA’s U21 state teams at the national championships in NSW.

Both WA teams picked up bronze medals in Lismore, and it
was through those performances that national selectors determined the
respective 27-member squads for 2019-20.

The squads have been chosen with broadening the base of
Australia’s future high performance structure in mind, and that pursuit has
been bolstered with five WA members picked in the women’s team with a further
six in the men’s.

Sara Foster, Annie Gibbs, Pippa Morgan, Renee Rockliff and Jolie Sertorio all earned
invitations for the women’s development squad, following their efforts in coach Jeremy Davy’s medal winning WA state
team.

Men’s WA U21 coach Chris
O’Reilly
saw athletes; James Collins, Dane Gavranich, Tom Harvie, Brayden King, Alistair Murray and Christian Starkie all make the cut.

King – who has represented Australia at Johor Cup level,
earned Player of the Tournament for the national carnival.

National women’s head coach Tim White and his men’s national
head coach counterpart Ben Bishop both commended the state Institute coaching system
for its efforts in helping to establish the elite junior talent pathway in preparedness
for the next level.

The 2019/2020 National Junior Program is set to comprise
training camps, a combined NTC competition as well as international matches.
