Western Australian BMX athletes Lauren Reynolds and Khalen Young have today been officially selected by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The WA duo will compete in London as part of the five-member Australian BMX team, with both athletes making their Olympic debut.

Bunbury born Reynolds has been a mainstay on the Australian team in recent times and competed in the UCI BMX World Championships in England last month, making the women’s elite final.

Reynolds (21) will race alongside Australia’s Caroline Buchanan in the women’s competition in Olympic Park with both athletes considered medal chances.

Young was in-line to compete at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 when BMX made its Olympic debut, before opting out to stay with his partner – who was expecting the couples’ first child.

The 27 year-old lives in California and competes on the US circuit against many of the world’s best BMX stars.

Men’s world champion Sam Willoughby and Brian Kirkham round out the Australian BMX team.

Reynolds and Young’s selection has taken WA’s numbers for the London Games to 32 athletes.
