Professional road cycling setup Team Sunweb have announced the signing of WA talents Michael Storer and Jai Hindley with both set to wear the team colours from 2018.

The pair have signed on two and three year deals respectively after breakthrough campaigns in 2017 with the Australian U23 road team.

Storer – a former U23 road time trial medallist – said the move would help him develop into a more mature rider.

“I’m really excited to join Team Sunweb. I’m looking forward to working with the team, the riders and staff and also the new challenge that will come with racing in the WorldTour.

“When considering teams, the development pathway was really important for me because I’m still only riding my second year as an U23. I wanted a team that provides the best support for me to become a better rider and somewhere I could become athlete on and off the bike.”

Hindley shared Storer’s sentiments, saying that he would look forward to benefitting from the pro-team’s approach to development.

“I’m super excited to be joining team Sunweb for 2018. I think the team have shown they are quite big on innovation as well as developing young guys and this really stood out for me when looking for a new team.

“For 2018 my main goals would be to try grow as a cyclist whilst learning as much as I can, and to try to adapt to the professional style of racing.”

Storer’s 2017 achievements to date have included a third place finish in the U23 time trial at the national championships and strong general classification results at both the Herald Sun Tour and Giro Ciclisto della Mont Blanc.

Hindley was third in the U23 road race at the 2017 Oceania Championships, whilst he picked up the white jersey at the Herald Sun Tour with a second general classification finish, before taking a stage win and third overall at the Giro Ciclistico d”italia.
