WA in Contention at Men’s and Women’s U21s

Western Australia’s U21 men’s and women’s state hockey teams have both qualified through to the top four of their respective National Championships and will be in the hunt for medals.

The men’s U21 side finished top of their group with three wins from three matches, after recording a 2-1 win over NSW to finish above them, following earlier wins over the ACT and South Australia. The men’s Championships are being held in Canberra.

The women’s U21 lost their match with NSW 4-0 and instead finished second, having beaten Tasmania and the ACT in their earlier matches. The women’s tournament is being hosted in Hobart.

With pool results being carried into the cross over groups, WA and Victoria currently led Pool C in the men’s tournament, with the winner of their clash today assured of a medal. WA will finish it’s pool matches on Saturday with a clash against Queensland.

The WA U21 women face Queensland today needing a win to keep themselves in contention for the title, and will finish their cross-over pool matches on Saturday win a match against Victoria.

The medal matches will be played on Sunday at both tournaments, with fixtures dependant on results from today’s and Saturday’s cross-over matches.
