WA Look for Success as 2017 AHL Set to Commence

Published On: 28 September 2017

Australia’s premier domestic hockey competition, the Australian Hockey League is scheduled to commence today, pitting the best players from around the country against each other as they compete for their home states and territories.

Following the success of last year’s competition, this year will also see development teams from both India and New Zealand take part.

Hockey Australia Chief Executive Matt Favier said “this year the AHL and Under-13 Carnival will see 44 teams compete, with 206 games played in four different divisions of both genders, running across 11 days.”

Last year’s AHL competition saw Victoria run out victors in the men’s division whilst Queensland came out on top in the women’s.

After coming second in 2016 the WA men’s side, the WA Thundersticks, will be looking to go one step further and claim the title as they take part in their first match against the Northern Territory at 4:30pm this afternoon.

The women’s first game will see them take on the Australian Capital Territory at 2:00pm this afternoon.

With the competition set to be fierce for both the men and women all teams will be setting their sights firmly on a spot in the grand final on the 8th of October.

The 2017 Australian Hockey League competition will take place at the Perth Hockey Stadium between the 28th of September and the 8th of October and all results can be found at https://hockeyaustralia.altiusrt.com/.
