WA Stars Targetting National Omnium Championships

The National Omnium Championships will this week pit a selection of Australia’s best track endurance stars against one another across a gruelling two day, six event schedule.

Held at the Darebin International Sports Centre in Melbourne from Thursday December 18-19, the Omnium Championships will hand out titles in the men’s and women’s elite and U19 categories.

In the elite ranks, WAIS will field a talented duo into battle, with Olympian Scott Sunderland continuing his foray into endurance cycling, having just last weekend sprinted to victory in a criterium event.

WAIS Junior Athlete of the Year Sam Welsford will make his elite debut, where he will be reunited with his gold medal winning teams pursuit colleagues from the recent London Track World Cup; Callum Scotson, Alex Porter and Daniel Fitter. Another young WAIS rider in Reece Tucknott will also take to the start line.

In the elite women’s racing, South Australian Annette Edmondson will be a hot favourite to win a fourth omnium title, however WAIS athletes Elissa Wundersitz and Emily McRedmond, will be looking for a consistent campaigns as they break through to senior ranks.

WAIS will also be well represented in the U19 men’s category, with Michael Storer, Alex Rendell and Darcy Pirotta all in action.
