WA Talent Compete at Junior Track World Champs

The 2017 UCI Junior Track World Championships have wrapped up in Montichiari, Italy with WA’s elite young talent returning some competitive performances.

Jade Haines and the Australian women’s team pursuit set a new Australian record in their round one victory over Colombia. The team clocked 4:33.246 to earn a ride in the bronze medal race-off with France.

The Australians missed the podium with France taking bronze and Italy setting a new world record for gold, ahead of New Zealand.

Haines also took to the boards for the individual pursuit, setting a time of 2:29.137 for 13th place.

Matthew Richardson exited competition in the men’s sprint at the quarter-final stage, after he was edged by Australian teammate and eventual bronze medallist James Brister.

 

On his junior world championships debut, Richardson set new personal bests in both the flying lap and in his starting lap role with the team sprint – marking an impressive performance from the 18 year-old.

Kye Bonser recorded a time of 1:04.420 in the 1km time trial for 22nd position overall, with the Alexander Heights resident also competing in the men’s keirin, where he took third place in the repechage round to narrowly miss out on qualification for round two.

In the men’s individual pursuit, Tyler Lindorff set the 12thfastest time with a personal marker of 3:20.460. Lindorff, like Richardson and Bonser was making his track world championship debut.
