HockeyWA celebrated their night of nights on Wednesday night

WAIS hockey athletes have featured heavily at HockeyWA’s Olympians and Charlesworth Medal presentation evening, with women’s scholarship holder Lisa Eglington taking out one of the major awards of the night.

Eglington took home the Charlesworth Medal as the best and fairest player in the women’s AHG League competition, mirroring the achievement of her husband, former Olympic gold medal winning Kookaburra Nathan Eglington, who tied with two others for the Olympians Medal for the men’s AHG League.

Wolves’ Lisa Eglington won the award after securing 37 votes from the umpires, finishing two clear of fellow WAIS scholarship holder Jayde Taylor (Wolves) and Hockeyroo Madonna Blyth.

On the men’s side of the competition it was an historic tie, with three players being awarded the medal for the first time.

WAIS scholarship holder Brent Dancer (Wesley-South Perth) shared the medal with Nathan Eglington (Wolves) and Thundersticks representative Craig Boyne (YMCC) after the trio all finished on 55 votes.

The Charlesworth medal wasn’t Lisa Eglington’s only gong of the night, with the prolific goal scorer also taking home the award for highest goal scorer in the women’s competition.

The other WAIS athlete to be recognised on the night was Stephanie Andrews, who won the women’s youth player of the year.
