WAIS Athletes Named on National Team

WAIS wheelchair basketball athletes have been selected in the men’s and women’s National teams set to contest the Kitakyushu Cup in Japan.

The tournament which doubles as a warm-up for the subsequent AOZ World Championship Qualifiers in Thailand, will give the Rollers and Gliders – who both claimed silver medals at the 2012 London Paralympics – the best possible lead up as they attempt to book their place for the 2014 World Championships.

The Rollers have called up WAIS athletes Brad Ness, Justin Eveson, Shaun Norris, Michael Hartnett and Adam Deans, whilst the Gliders will be represented by WAIS athletes Amber Merritt, Sarah Vinci and Clare Nott.

Canada will host next year’s men’s World Championships, with South Korea the venue for the women’s tournament.

The Australian men’s team are the current reigning world champion, whilst the women are looking to claim their first world title, having three times won bronze medals.
