WAIS athletes across sports such as hockey, water polo and rowing have been awarded Elite Athlete Scholarships through Curtin University.
Curtin awarded a series of scholarships to ten of its most outstanding elite athletes which included from WAIS; hockey players Kiel Brown and Jayde Taylor, water polo athlete James Fannon, sailing scholarship holder Mark Whittington, rower and Beijing Olympian Natalie Bale and Australia volleyball co-captain Tara West.
The scholarships have been awarded for the first time as part of the Elite Athlete Program.
The scholarships are provided to assist athletes in balancing their university and sporting commitments successfully. Many of Curtin’s elite athletes spend up to six months abroad each year competing and require the assistance of the Elite Athlete Program to manage their commitments.
The scholarship winners include World Champions, Commonwealth Games gold medallists and junior Australian representatives who have achieved commendable results in the degrees thus far.
