WAIS BMX athletes Tanya Bailey and Nicole Callisto have competed in the Adelaide Supercross over the weekend, posting strong results.
Bailey finished fourth and Callisto seventh in a high quality race, with a good International field. New Zealander Sarah Walker took the line honours with American Arielle Martin and Canada’s Sam Cools claiming second and third respectively.
Callisto has had an interrupted couple of years with surgery required to reconstruct a damaged knee that was preventing the Sydney based West Australian from hitting top form.
Callisto is beginning to re-discover her sizeable potential, with the 2008 Beijing Games looming as a real possibility for the 20 year-old.
BMX will make its debut as an Olympic sport in Beijing, with the high octane pace predicted to be a big hit with the younger audience.
Australia will send three men and women to Beijing as part of what is expected to be a hugely competitive squad. Fellow WAIS BMX star, Khalen Young has found big success riding the pro-circuit in the US, and is another Australian expected to make a big statement in Beijing.
