This Friday the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre will host the 2011 WAIS Champions Breakfast, which acknowledges and awards the athletes and staff who have achieved excellence in the past year.
The following awards will be handed out on the morning:
WAIS Career and Education Excellence Award –
The Athlete Career and Education Excellence Award recognises and encourages excellence in both sport and life. To be considered, an athlete must have excelled either academically or within their chosen career, and have achieved this while also maintaining their sporting focus, results and commitment.
An athlete must also have contributed significantly to the development of themselves and/or others through their involvement with the WAIS.
Last year’s award winner was WAIS hockey athlete Tristan Clemons.
WAIS Triumph Award –
This award relates to athletes who overcome significant adversity to continue their sporting career and thereby demonstrate traits such as persistence and courage.
The 2010 recipient was netball athlete Susan Fuhrmann.
WAIS Best New Initiative Award –
This award recognises any process, method or knowledge created at WAIS that acts to improve operations / output; or enhance the reputation of WAIS.
This award was not handed out in 2010.
WAIS Coach of the Year Award –
The criteria for this award includes aspects such as % of athletes on National teams, % of athletes achieving World Class Performances; upholding WAIS values in their coaching, reputation of the program to name just a few.
WAIS Sport Program of the Year Award –
This award is judged on aspects such as the number of World Class performances, % of National team representation, rate of improvement from the previous year, effective integration of services, innovation within the program and relationship with National and State Sporting Organisations.
In 2010, the WAIS Netball program earned the award.
