WAIS divers Joshua Ong and Teju Williamson have qualified for finals at the 2014/15 Australian Open Championships in Adelaide.
Ong scored 320.60 in the men’s 3m springboard semi-final, which was enough to see the youngster through to Saturday final.
Victorian James Connor stands as favourite for the title, after accruing 409.40 points in qualifying top.
Teju Williamson will join Ong in finals action, after the MLC student qualified through in the women’s platform.
Williamson was fifth ranked in qualifying, earning 258.45 points, in what is expected to be an open and interesting final. Williamson will be joined by training partner Tamara Irvine, who also qualified, scoring 216.45.
Former WAIS scholarship holder Maddison Keeney won a championship title on day 1, claiming the women’s 1m springboard with an impressive 298.55 points.
Keeney who won dual medals at this year’s Commonwealth Games, has relocated to the AIS high performance program in Queensland, and produced a high quality series of dives to take bragging rights over fellow Commonwealth Games representative Esther Qin (284.15) and Georgia Sheehan (265.40).
“I’m pretty happy with how I went,” Keeney said. “I’ve had a few days off in the last couple of weeks and have not trained as much as usual because of a shoulder injury.
“The shoulder is painful even when I am not diving and after the nationals I’ll take a break,” she told The Adelaide Advertiserafter the event.
