Athletes in the WAIS Diving Program will have the chance to show their wares this weekend as Perth’s Challenge Stadium hosts the 2010 Australian Elite Junior Diving Championships.

With the WAIS Program just over a year old, its young squad has been assembled under the guidance of WAIS head Diving Coach Iris Deng – who has experience coaching top level divers in her native China.

Flying the flag for WAIS between July 9-11 will be Maddison Keeney (Karrinyup), Sophie Henderson (Peppermint Grove), Courtney Press (Woodlands), Zachary Farrall (Westminster), Lucie Williams (Floreat) and Sally Williams (City Beach).

Keeney will be in the thick of the action, competing in the Girls B category featuring in the 1m, 3m, platform and synchronized events. Hackett will also compete in the Girls B platform.

In Girls C Sophie Henderson, Courtney Press and Lucie Williams will all be in action, whilst Zachery Farrall will enter the Boys C 1m, 3m and platform events.

The 2010 Australian Elite Junior Diving Championships start on the back of the 2010 Australian Commonwealth Games Trials, which has featured world class Australian divers Matthew Mitcham and Melissa Wu.

Both divers spent time with the WAIS squad in June – along with the NSWIS (New South Wales Institute of Sport) squad sharing their experience with the WAIS athletes, who also had the opportunity to train with Australia’s elite divers.
