WAIS gymnast Nikki Chung has captured her first international medal at the Gymnix International in Canada after winning bronze on beam.

Chung was part of six member Australian team that travelled to Canada for the tournament that was first held in 1991 to aid the development of Canadian gymnasts and has since grown into a big international meet.

Chung showed plenty of potential over the two day competition, including solid displays in the all-around (10th) before earning the highest D score of the competing Australians with a 5.80 D on the beam to earn bronze – her first international medal.

Australian head coach Peggy Liddick praised the efforts of the travelling team believing it will help them develop their skill sets moving forward.

“The girls have gained an enormous experience over the past three weeks and have learned a lot about themselves and are all ready to add difficulty to show the selectors at the April verification camp,” she said.
