The Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) has marked the start of a deeper connection to Country, culture and community, with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony.
Facilitated by Jonathon and Daniel Garlett, the ceremony marked the beginning of WAIS’ journey toward deeper cultural connection, led by Mariah Williams in her role as Our Connection to Country Officer.
For Williams, the moment carried both personal and organisational significance. Beginning her role by being welcomed onto the land by Traditional Owners set a powerful tone for the work ahead.
Aligned Nationally with the HP2032+ Sport Strategy, the initiative represents an important step in WAIS’ commitment to working together, walking together, aspiring together and achieving together, laying the foundation for a more connected and inclusive future.
